About Scruggs Lumber
Scruggs Lumber is dedicated to providing our customers with a caring and reliable source for products, information and services that are associated with the building industry.
Founded In 1919
We are one of Missouri’s oldest family-owned and operated businesses built on a reputation of trust, hard work, good service and quality products. Founded in 1919 by Henry Guhleman and Clifford Scruggs, the company is now run by Clifford’s great granddaughter, Stephanie, and still has several family members working in various departments. It’s nice to know that some things never change. You’ll still find the same friendly atmosphere that started the company over 100 years ago. We consider our customers our friends and call them by name just like they did when the company started.
“Although an old company, if you can’t change in the building industry, you won’t last long.”
Service Stands The Test of Time
We have withstood the test of time by continually investigating and learning new products and processes to help make our customers’ jobs easier. We align ourselves with vendors and products that fit our high standards of quality and value. Our years of experience in this industry have helped our customers weed through the massive amount of products available to make the best decisions for their budget and design. We are committed to our customers’ success and satisfaction.
We are a Woman Owned Business (WBE), certified by the state of Missouri, and a winner of Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year.

Community Involvement
As our business has grown, so has this wonderful Central Missouri community, and we have been proud supporters of a variety of non-profit organizations since our inception. Starting with our founder, Clifford Scruggs, who was a huge supporter of Lincoln University back in the early 1900’s (see Clifford G. Scruggs University Center) to the countless organizations we are involved with today – we strongly believe that you have to support those who support you. See below for just a few of the organizations we have donated our time, talent or treasure to over the years.
- Habitat for Humanity
- Samaritan Center
- American Cancer Society/Relay for Life
- American Heart Association
- Tunnels to Towers Foundation
- Special Olympics
- 4–H
- Little Theater
- Boy scouts / Girl scouts / Eagle scouts
Local schools, churches, sports teams, garden clubs, choirs and many others too numerous to mention.
